Description

Same. To understand any of this please read my journal entry tittled "Language History assigment"

For this part of the project we decided to make a sculpture to represent our ideal World Leader. After discussing the materials we would use, the size and several other details, we figured out which would be the best way to represent our leader. We opted for ordinary, economic materials to represent one of our main ideas which is that a World Leader is not hard to find: we already have the resources, all we have to do is learn how to use them.
There is a different symbolism for each material. We chose a candle to illustrate a message of faith and to show that Derek Ford is a beacon of hope in the prevailing darkness of the world. We used a rubber for the neck to point out that he will do anything in his power to change what is wrong. For the hands we thought of a ruler, which symbolizes that Derek will be a “strait ruler” and that he will lead people to follow the right path. A glue was used for our leader’s body to represent that he will try to repair the damage previously performed and unite the nations of the world. For his legs we used a pencil to show his interest in the education of the young and the elderly alike. We chose a highlighter to symbolize that Ford can notice, and point out to others, what is truly important and essential.
We also chose to add a meaning for the colors we used in the different parts of Derek’s body. The white candle for example, symbolizes purity and positivity. Also, we used pink for the eraser representing friendship, kindness and affection whereas the blue of the ruler stands for, eternity, spirituality, thought and wisdom. The glue implies two colors: yellow, which symbolizes intelligence and happiness, and transparent, meaning truthfulness. For one leg we used a green pencil which symbolizes life, wealth, good luck and generosity. The wood that the pencil is made out of also has its meaning: nature, stability and Derek’s down to earth personality and concern for the environment. And finally, we chose orange for the highlighter to emphasize his energy, balance and desire for the achievement of a better world.
After our sculpture was done, we made a base which is wrapped up in newspaper cuttings. With letters of the news’ headings we formed the following words that represent the ideals in which Derek Ford bases his work and life: “balance”, “freedom”, “truth”, “kindness”, “life”, “honor”, “love”, “wisdom”, “change”, “hope”, “justice” and “comprehension”. He believes those are essential for a peaceful environment and we chose to use these words to show that they are his “foundations” and that he firmly believes in those concepts.
We painted and decorated a shoe box with more newspapers and some violet paint since this color is the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors which blend to form a purple which symbolizes balance. We also insisted on the newspaper cuttings to show that the written word surpasses the trials of time to remain and make change obtainable. Words also represent freedom of thought, which suggests tolerance and comprehension, two important postures needed for the rightful functioning of a global system.
